Let me start off by saying that I'm not really a Piers Anthony fan. It's not like I've got a seething dislike for his work, it's just that they've never really held my attention. I've always thought the Xanth books were written for a younger audience.

That being said, this book was not written like one of the Xanth books. Sure, there's still a recognizable literary style there, but the themes and subject matter in this book are much more mature.

I'm not going to bore you with retyping the dust jacket or back cover, so if you're intrigued, click the link

Pat - This is my first visit to this site. I have visited your other site several times. Anyway, I say this post about the Incarnation Series. On a Pale Horse is just one in the series. The whole series is incredible, in my opinion. On a Pale Horse is the first. The others are 2. Bearing an Hourglass, 3. With a Tangled Skein; 4. Wielding a Red Sword; 5, Being a Green Mother; 6, For Love of Evil; and 7. And Eternity. Personally, I always advise anyone who is going to read the series to read For Love of Evil first. I have not been able to figure out why it is book "6" instead of being the first. It really sets the stage & explains a LOT about the others & makes them much more understandable & enjoyable. In my opinion Bearing an Hourglass was my least favorite. Chronos is just an odd character but, to each his own. Are you planning on reading the rest of the series. I have the whole collection, 1st edition, hard-back. A gift from a wonderful son. :o) I have read some of the Xanth series & they are like reading those cheap romance novels that you can crank out one in about an hour. You are absolutely right, this series is much different.
