As you're probably aware today is Superbowl Sunday. I had a few people over for a party, grilled up some brats, and sat back to watch the commercials and the game. It wasn't the most impressive game, I was expecting a little more intensity, but it was good to see that the Steelers won.
One of my friends talked me into going down to Joe Pool Lake to do a ride with the Rusty Chain Gang, a part of The Fort Worth Bicycling Association. This was my first long ride in probably 15 years.
The ride was good, I learned a lot about what to do and especially what not to do. Chief among them is to not try to keep up with the guys on the road bikes up the steepest hill on the ride when you're a newbie on a mountain bike! I also learned that Cytomax is a lot better than water for keeping hydrated and electrolyte replacement.
It was a good ride, a little over 27 miles when all was said and done, and I'll be back out there in two weeks to do it all over again!
I got to go to a Frisco RoughRiders baseball game today. It was a real treat, they've got a beautiful park, and I don't think there's really a bad seat in the house. The game was good, and Frisco won 10-7 over Midland. Parking was cheap, there was no traffic to fight when I left, and the ticket prices are extremely reasonable. This is what baseball should be.

I've been thinking about checking out a Kendo class for a while. I used to fence with epees in college and have been thinking about this for a while. So I'm going to go down and check out one of the all levels classes that DFWKIK has to see both if I'm up to it (probably not, but I won't let that stop me) and whether I really want to do this. More to follow...
We had a pretty good turnout at Casa Patricio for the North Texas Netscum (and others) Superbowl party. Red and Rusty, Waco and Mouse, Dave and Marylin Cole, Bill Gilmore, Alex, and Jay turned out for an evening of commercial watching. The New England Patriots won, yay!
I'm kind of let down though, the commercials weren't as good as last year. I guess the "wardrobe malfunction" scared them off. Combine that with the fact that only about half of them were actually shot in 16x9 High Definition made it less than memorable.
I decided to do one of the aerobics classes that the gym offers. That class really kicked my butt! But I will be back there again next week because it really gave me a good workout and the instructor was good enough to help me out when I started getting lost. It wasn't nearly as bad as the aerobics classes that I tried before. With those you would have needed a decent background in dance in order to keep up! This was fun!
So I started back at the gym yesterday, working on my upper body and abs for the first time in a long while. Well, I'm definitely paying the price today, but the ouchies are telling me where else I need to work, especially my abs, since they're feeling fine. Legs and abs on Wednseday...
After I got in a short nap(!) we headed down to Reunion Arena to get on the bus to the Cotton Bowl. Heather volunteered to help out with the Tennessee Alumni Association's bus, so we got a free ride over. That's a really good thing considering the parking situation in the Fair Park area. I got some loaner orange so that I didn't look so out of place since our seats were in the Tennessee section.
This was my first live football game, other than a few crappy games when I was in high school, and it was a blast. The Aggies were obnoxiously loud, but kept getting quieter and quieter as the Vols moved the score higher but I'll give them credit, they didn't give up.
We had great seats on the lower level of the stadium at around the 20 yard line which gave us a really good view of the field. I'm still pretty football ignorant, but it was a pretty good game, and I'm hoping to get to a few more.
There's pictures of the game over here in case you're interested, don't mind the orange!

We took Reese to his first baseball game tonight. We got a late start out because of Joi's new job, but we only missed the first inning. The little guy did really well, but was getting a little cranky by the 8th inning, not too bad considering that was an hour and a half past his bedtime. So we deicded to take off with the score at Oakland 4 Texas 1. By the time we got to the car (we were really far out) the Rangers had scored and taken the lead. We're thinking we were the jinxes and shouldn't be going to any more games.
