I just finished processing the pictures from my trip to Illinois over in the gallery. So go take a look.
It’s time for new dishes since the old ones are in Illinois. So I went to Linens ‘n Things tonight to start on a new set. I decided to do something a little different and have now begun a Fiestaware set, but I’m not doing all one color. Over the next few months I’m going to be picking up the rest of the pieces in random colors. I’ve already got 7 different ones now. It certainly is different.
If you’re going to go shopping for this stuff, stay away from the store near 635 and the Galleria in Dallas, their selection was awful. The one on MacArthur and 635 had about 5 times as much. That seemed to be pretty counterintuitive to me, but what ever.
Man is it good to be home! The I-35 route is definitely faster, but it’s still 12 or so hours of travel time. There was some kind of front moving through Oklahoma and the wind that came along with it killed my gas mileage and kept me awake at the same time. It’s not fun being blown into the other lane at 75 miles per hour!
It was a good weekend, but too short.
Now it’s time to get some sleep.
I’m finishing off a large El Credito Apprentice cigar as I type this and have to say that I’m very impressed. I understand that they’re “student” cigars, and this one has had a couple spots where it burned funky, but the draw and flavor are wonderful. Big clouds of smoke!
Reese and I went to All Saints Church for liturgy this morning. It was different, but in a good way, from an OCA litugy as it’s a Greek Orthodox church. But the people were very friendly and Fr. John made sure we felt welcome.
We took Reese to the Children’s Discovery Museum in Normal, IL today and he had a great time. Admission was $4.00 per person over two years of age, which was an incredibly deal for what we got. The museum is three floors of hands-on activities for kids, with everting from train sets to waterfalls to pneumatic tubes. We had some trouble tearing Reese away from it when it was time to go. I’ll be posting pictures as soon as I download them from the camera.
If you’re in the area, I’d highly recommend taking the little ones there. They also do birthday parties, and there were a couple going on while we were there. Just don’t trust the directions MapQuest gives, they’re wrong.
I left for Peoria this morning to drop off the first batch of Joi’s stuff and spend the weekend with Reese. I decided to take a different route to see if it was faster. Every other time I’ve gone to Peoria I’ve gone up US 75 to US 69 through Oklahoma, picking up I-44 in Big Cabin. This time I decided to try I-35 to Oklahoma City and then get on I-44 there. The mapping software said it was about 100 miles longer, but it worked out to be about an hour shorter due to the higher average speed on the interstates. I left at 6:30 in the morning and pulled in at about 7:30 at night. The GPS showed an hour of stopped time, so the trip was definitely faster. And it only cost me $3.50 in additional tolls.
The Jeep did really well with the stock gearing and larger tires. Other than really steep hills I didn’t have a problem staying at 70 to 75 miles per hour. And I averaged a little over 15 miles per gallon fuel economy. So now I’m a little undecided about regearing, at least until I tear apart the differentials to put in lockers.
I submitted my last assignment for POS/407, Java Programming 2, about 10 minutes ago. That’s another class down, and 12 to go. It’s a nice feeling of accomplishment and I’m looking forward to the next class. It’s a database course, which is nice because databases are certainly my weak suit. Now I’ve got a week off and then class starts next Thursday.
I don’t usually write about work related stuff, kind of a personal rule, but this is more social than work related. I went to Pappadeaux for my boss’s 50th birthday party. Much fun was had, the crawfish etouffee was excellent, the beer was cold, and there were plenty of over the hill cracks made at his expense. All in all a good night.
