Roady Walkman

I got an e-mail announcing that Delphi was having a quickie sale on a few accessories for the Roady2 XM receiver. And a sale it was! I got the Personal Audio System (a Walkman-like adapter) for $20! And then for kicks added in the home kit so that I can listen at my desk. $40 for both with free shipping. Sweet!

The site was getting hammered so badly yesterday that it was all but inaccessible. Note to marketing folks, check with your IT guys before starting an e-mail campaign. I’ve run large e-commerce websites (NokiaUSA.com) and you don’t do this kind of stuff in a vacuum. Because of that I was worried that it’d be all sold out before I could get my order in, but no worries. It was happy this morning and the order went through.

House Blessing

Fr. Justin came over tonight to bless the house. A house blessing is an annual event for Orthodox Christians that serves to rededicate the home to God’s protection and drive away all evil influences from the home and everyone who lives in it.

It’s not a long service, though Fr. Justin and I stayed and chatted for a while afterwards, but the house really does feel different. It’s got a much more peaceful feel to it now.

WEB/410 Is Over!

Tonight was the last night of WEB/410, and I’m glad it’s done. All of the assignments were due last night so tonight really was a non-event, but still, it’s good to have a week off to rest up and to go up to Illinois to visit Reese.

Another 10% Off!

I found a 10% off coupon that I’d gotten with the Vonage rebates and went back over to the store to see if they could apply it. It turned out that they could and I saved another 10% on the purchase price, which I’m not going to scoff at.

New Surround Sound Receiver

When I signed up for Vonage, Circuit City was doing a pretty sweet deal with rebates and such. They paid for the adapter, the signup fees, and left me with a gift card to put towards an upgrade of my receiver. The only problem was that the card had a rather short expiration date.

So, that being said, since there was a sale going on today, I picked up a Sony STR-DE898. It does component video switching so I can run the TV on component input and have the receiver do all of the video switching. I’ve got everything running now and it’s working well. Even got the Harmony remote reprogrammed.

Joe Egg

Thanks to a friend I got to go see Joe Egg tonight over at The Dallas Theater Center.

The play was excellent. I’m glad I went because it was definitely outside of what I would have looked for. The subject matter’s pretty serious but it’s delivered with a large dose of humor and even some inclusion of the audience in to the piece.

If you get a chance to go see it, it’s definitely worth it!

The Superbowl

As you’re probably aware today is Superbowl Sunday. I had a few people over for a party, grilled up some brats, and sat back to watch the commercials and the game. It wasn’t the most impressive game, I was expecting a little more intensity, but it was good to see that the Steelers won.

Magician: Apprentice

Somehow this one slipped through the cracks. It’s been sitting on a shelf in my bookcase for quite some time now, and that’s a shame because it’s a heck of a good book. In Magician: Apprentice, Mr. Feist has created a believable fantasy world, great characters, and a plot line that kept me turning the pages.
